For the nostalgic writer who pines for the clickety-clack of a typewriter but knows the transcript must be delivered digitally.

Via USB Typewriter:

The USBTypewriter™ is a new and groundbreaking innovation in the field of obsolescence. Lovers of the look, feel, and quality of old fashioned manual typewriters can now use them as keyboards for any USB-capable computer, such as a PC, Mac, or even iPad! The modification is easy to install, it involves no messy wiring, and does not change the outward appearance of the typewriter (except for the usb adapter itself, which is mounted in the rear of the machine). So the end result is a retro-style USB keyboard that not only looks great, but feels great to use.

Gosler estimates there are now only 1,000 people in the entire United States with the sophisticated skills needed for the most demanding cyberdefense tasks. To meet the computer security needs of U.S. government agencies and large corporations, he says, a force of 20,000 to 30,000 similarly skilled specialists is needed.

"You go looking for those people, but everybody else is looking for the same thousand people," says SANS Research Director Alan Paller. "So they're just being pushed around from NSA to CIA to DHS to Boeing. It's a mess."

Some are currently being trained at the nonprofit SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute outside Washington, D.C., but the demand for qualified cybersecurity specialists far exceeds the supply.

Hackers use Twitter's internal admin tools to hijack accounts and post all sorts of nasties.

Hackers used Twitter’s internal administration tools to hijack accounts and post all sorts of nasties in subscribers’ names. Most targets where celebrities, notable among them Barack Obama and Britney Spears, which is another way of saying that Twitter did what the McCain campaign couldn’t do: successfully link the two.

This follows on the heals of a large phishing scam that plagued the micro-blogging platform over the weekend.

If Twitter outages once indicated the service hadn’t yet grown up, does being a target for hackers mean it’s all grown up?
